Heute hat es aprilmäßig immer wieder geregnet. Zeit um endlich zwei Antimakassars für unsere zwei teuren Sessel von Grüne Erde zu nähen. Was sind nun Antimakassars? Es sind Schutzbezüge für Lehnen an Polstermöbeln, diese wurden im 19. Jahrhundert viel verwendet, um Möbel gegen Haarölflecken von Schleichera trijuga zu schützen.


Das Öl wurde aus den Früchten der Koesambibäume sowie Ylang Ylang-Öl hergestellt, diese wurden vom Hafen von Makassar, einer 1,25-Millionen-Stadt in Indonesien, nach Europa verschifft. Bei uns ist es nur das schmierig-ölige Gemisch an den Pfötchen unseres Jüngsten, das diese Aktion dringend notwendig macht! Als Anti-Rutsch-Seite habe ich ein Moltontuch aus Wickeltisch-Zeiten verwendet, die Oberseite ist reines naturfarbenes Leinen vom Schweden (aus Österreich mitgenommen, hier im Land gibt es ja keinen Schweden, wein, schluchz!)


It is raining today, only shortly interrupted by innocent spells of sunshine, so I decided to finally sew the antimacassars for our two expensive chairs (made only of organic timber, fabric, wool, thread etc). What is a antimacassar? It's a device (formely crocheted) that protects the backs and arms of sofas and chairs against stains of macassar, which was a fashionable hair oil in the 19th century. It was made of the fruits of Schleichera trijuga. The oil - which was mixed with coconut oil and ylang ylang oil was traded at the Indonesian harbour of Macassar. Antimacassars are still in use to protect headrests in planes and busses. We desperately need them to protect our Playstation chair against the greasy-sticky-sweaty hands of our little fella. I just used an old piece of molleton (from those nappy changing days) as a non-slip inner side and for the outside I took some natural linnen from the big Swedish interior store (from Austria, sigh, cry, scream, we don't have one in this poor country...)
